About Undertone: Renound Australian winemaker, Kurt J Brill, collaborated with Irish restaurateur, Padraig Devlin, to produce wines for his restaurant ‘Burnt Orange’ in Sydney for the past 15 years. This wine ‘Undertone’ is a tribute to Padraig’s life-long passion for The Undertones!
Description: 2 parcels, 40 & 15 year old vines from McLaren Flat – sandy loam over dispersive red clay which characteristically produces big, rich bold wines. With 22 mths in seasoned large recycled American oak vessels, this wine is beautifully crafted. The Vines are carefully hand harvested with miminum intervention during the wine making process.
McLaren Vale has a mediterranean type climate with hot summer days, cooling breezes from the Gulf of St Vincent, and low rainfall in growing season meaning very little disease, this region probably the most consistent wine region in Australia.
The nose displays blackberry, raspberry and black currant with mocha and liquorice. Rich round and vibrant palate with dense dark berry fruit flavours, dark chocolate, liquorice and hints of black pepper and spice. The finish is soft and generous.
