About Finca La Melonera: Founded in 2006, La Melonera is an estate nestled in the Serranía de Ronda, a sub zone of the Sierras de Málaga DO, and a top quality wine growing project involved in the restoration of varieties on the verge of extinction. Under the leadership of four shareholders, one of which is the Perelada group ( owners of Castilla de Perelada) who are responsible for the vineyard management. Resident oenologists are Ana de Castro and Delfí Sanahuja. The estate compromises of 196 hectares of which 9.5 are vineyards, 4 of these are farmed organically and the rest is in the process of being converted. The red varieties grown are Tintilla de Rota, Blasco, Corchero Tinta and Melonera and the whites are Quiebratinajas, Morisco and Platera. They also grow the classic varieties Garnacha, Syrah, Monastrell and Cariñena. Although the variety gives its name to the winery, the Melonera, occupies only 1 hectare of plantation.
Vinification: A Crianza aged for 12 months in French oak barrels from Allier then bottle aged in cellar. The grapes were separately hand harvested in 7 kg boxes, macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks.
Description: 45% Syrah, 40% Tintilla de Rota, 15% Romé. Cherry red colour. Aroma of black fruit, blackberries, currants woth some spice. In the mouth it is meaty, well balanced with rounded tannins. Long finish with a marked personality of its terroir. Decant 30 minutes before drinking.
Alcohol: 14.5%
